Wayne in Question Period: Government must listen to UNESCO on buffer zone for Gros Morne

Today NDP National Parks Critic and Kootenay--Columbia MP Wayne Stetski rose in the House to call on the government to establish an industrial buffer zone around Gros Morne National Park.

Last week, a draft decision by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee once again urged Canada to consider a buffer zone, including for oil and gas development. The Heritage Committee's draft decision raises the concern that Gros Morne "may no longer be adequately protected against oil and gas exploration".

The Committee will vote on the decision in July, with Gros Morne's world heritage status at stake.
